If you are an avid gamer, at some point in time you would have spent a few hours playing PlayStation. The PlayStation console series is one of the most popular in the gaming world, and it is easy to see why. The first PlayStation console was released back in 1994 and changed the face of gaming forever. Shortly after its release, the company brought out a smaller, slimmer version of the console, called the PSone. The PSone became the first gaming console in history to sell over 120 million units.
The success of the original console led to the release of the PlayStation 2 in the year 2000. The PS2 competed directly with the Xbox and the Nintendo GameCube. The PS2 had an advantage over the other consoles in that it was backwards compatible with all of the original PSone Games. Like its predecessor, the PS2 was re-released in a more compact casing and featured a DVR unit. By the time it was discontinued in 2012, PS2 became the bestselling console of all time.
In 2006, Sony released the PlayStation 3 console to compete with the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console. The PS3 included a number of modern features including wireless motion control sensors, high-definition resolution and a built-in Blu-ray player. At the time, only the Nintendo Wii and the PS2 had wireless controllers, leaving the Xbox 360 behind the times. The PS3 also featured access to the PlayStation Network and the PlayStation Store.

Sony’s most recent console is the PlayStation 4. Released in 2013, the PS4 features completely different architecture to the rest of the series. Some of the new features of the PS4 included the PlayStation App which allowed players to turn their smartphones and tablets into a second screen. Sony also plan to release the PlayStation Now service for the PS4 and possibly the PlayStation 5. The Now service will be make it possible for players to stream in-game content to viewers around the world.
